Secondary Madd

If There Is a Hamza or Shadda After a Madd Letter

When a Hamza ( ء ) or Shadda (  ّ  ) comes after a Madd letter, a longer prolongation is required. When you see this symbol the letter should be extended for four.
Harakat, which equals to four counts.
The Secondary Madd is shown with a special ( ٓ ) sign.

Similar to the rule mentioned earlier, the Yaa Sakinah and the Waaw Sakinah can sometimes be written in between two words with the symbol ( ٓ ) above.
This Madd will be pronounced only if you continue reading. When it happens the sound will be prolonged for four Harakat which is around two seconds.
If you stop at the first word, don’t pronounce the Madd letter.
