Laam in the Word Allah (SWT)
If a Fatha ( َ ) or a Dhamma ( ُ ) comes before the word ( لله ) hen Laam in the word “Allah” will be read with a full mouth as a heavy sound.
If a Kasra ( ِ ) comes before the word ( لله ), it will be read with a less open mouth as a light sound.
In other words, if the Haraka before the word “Allah” is above, it will be read with a full mouth. Whereas, if it is below, it will be read in a light form with a less open mouth.
Rules of Raa
Raa ( ر ) is also a letter that can be pronounced either way; heavy or light.
There are exceptions but in general:
– If a fatha ( َ ) or a dhamma ( ُ ) comes on the letter Raa, it is read with a full mouth.
– If a kasra ( ِ ) comes on the letter Raa, then it is read with a less open mouth.
– If Raa is Saakinah letter, then we look at the Haraka of the letter before it and apply the same rule above.
In other words, if the Haraka is above, it will be read as a heavy Raa with a full mouth, if the haraka is below, it will be read as a light Raa with a less open mouth.
Muqatta’at Letters
Muqatta’at letters are a unique letter combination that appears at the beginning of some Surahs (chapters) in the Quran.
These letters are written together like a word, but each letter is pronounced separately.
