The Dhamma sign is a small curl placed above a letter. The Dhamma ( ) enables the light letters (blue boxes) to produce a short /u/ sound like “Book” or “July”. The heavy letters (green boxes) produce a heavier /u/ sound that leans a little bit towards /o/ sound as in “Quran”.
